i need your restaurant advice!

guys.
i need your help! leave me a comment if you have ideas.

all my favorite restaurants seem to shut down right when i start loving them. ie: Nova Express, T on Fairfax, and the Whisper Lounge (didn't shut down... but changed COMPLETELY!).

I love restaurants that give you a great experience.
• Nova was space-themed
• T on Fairfax made you feel like you were in Europe
• the Whisper Lounge had live piano and great lighting

and all of them had absolutely delicious food!
Nova: gourmet pizza with honey wheat crust
T on Fairfax: organic, amazingly fresh salads and sandwiches
Whisper Lounge: this special raviolli with burnt sage and brown sugar. believe me. life changer!!

I've figured out that looking online for new restaurants doesn't work.
it just brings up boring places that pay to be on the A-lists.

and i dont want A-list places that i can find on citysearch.com
i need hole in the wall places that no one knows about
places that only you know about
places where the owner knows you
places where everything is magical.

the stakes are high.

but!
we can do this.

they need to be in LA/Orange County
specifically: Old Town Orange, Fullerton, Pasadena, West Hollywood.....

leave a comment with your brilliance!

Off Vine. its in hollywood. not west hollywood, hope that's ok. its literally off vine street in 'downtown' hollywood. its amazing though b/c its in a small, cozy converted house surrounded by ivy. a little oasis in the trendy/touristy madness of hollywood. california cuisine they have a website. check it out. i've been 2 or 3 times.

also, the bungalow club in west hollywood. reserve a spot in the 'bungalows' outside. awesome atmosphere and great food. my favorite: airborne chicken with potatoes. my gf's favorite: ahi tuna salad. huge drink menu too. one of our regular places. i believe they also have a website.

Hi Shan! Have you been to Alta at Balboa Peninsula?! They have the BEST Chai Lattes and great homemade food. Also they have all kind of board games that you can play while eating!!

thanks guys! Sam--- I checked the first one, and they are closed right now because they had a fire... but the other one sounds great!

Mon--- I've never been there before. It sounds so good! And i love that you get to play board games!

Yeah, Monica is right, Alta is fantastic, and they have a little local art 'exhibit' in a shed thing next door on their property, and they have local artist's work hanging on the walls. And sometimes they have some live music. It's great!

I'm going to the Casbah Cafe on sunday with Todd (Davis). I'll let you know if it's something you would dig.
It's in Silver Lake on Sunset.

The Crosby in Santa Ana in the Artists District is awesome! And the whole wall above where you sit is lined with old school boomboxes. They serve tons of vegitarian/vegan friendly foods! You would love it!

ps: my good friends' boyfriend owns the place with two of his other friends so its always so chill when you go in. They dont even have a sign out front yet because they just opened this year. the address is 400 N. Broadway, Santa Ana CA -- right next to starbucks on broadway!

the Alcove is one of my faves--in Los Feliz. Delicious fresh and creative food! You must try the apple pear coleslaw, their sweet potato fries, and anything breakfast. Great outdoor seating, garden vibe.

The Courtyard in Hollywood has wonderful Tapas and Sangria (when not on contract, of course). Another courtyard, outdoors, Spainish feeling environment.

Ghindi Thai in burbank has delicious fine Thai food and sushi...fun clean/mod decor too.

OH! My new favoritest place---Number Nine in Long Beach!!!!!!!!! It's Vietnamese Noodles and they are so simple, delicious, and perfect! Hot and cold noodles, they bring out fresh herbs and veggies and sauces for you to mix and match to your own taste. It's amazing...and a very clean, simple aesthetic too. Must try their spring rolls, egg rolls, and there bu'n (cold noodles). yummm....I'll go with you actually...

I'll think of some more must-tries

oh, and Taste, off of Melrose in Hollywood. Yummy brunch place.

Oh, and LaLa's (Argentinian food) also off of Melrose has AMAZING LIFE CHANGING bread dipping sauce. I forget what it's called but every table gets some. DELISH.

oh, and Urth Cafe (also off of Melrose) has amazing Spanish Lattes. Never had food there but I would put money on it being great!
